MODEL: MAGNIFYING DEVICE FOR THREADING NEEDLES
DATE: c. 1920
MAKER: unknown but patented by William C Adams
SIGNED: PAT FEB.15.1916
DESCRIPTION:
This rather simple device is simply a magnifying glass attached via a hinge to stiff wire which in turn is designed to fit into the hole of a spool of thread. The user then has the thread readily available and yet not loose and flying about in the wind.
HISTORY OF THIS MAGNIFIER
Simple microscopes and magnifiers were used since before the time of Van Leewoenhoek
to assess the quality of cloth, and likely were also used to assist in threading needles since the time they were invented as well. The full descriptive patent from 1916, is shown here on the website.
