This diatom was mounted in both valve & girdle views so its 3 dimensional appearance may be more easily discerned. The 3-D appearance is further enhanced by the video at the bottom of this page. It is the type species for the genus Trachyneis. Aspera means rough, undoubtedly referring to its coarse alveolae that look sharp. It was mounted in Hyrax.
