THE SWIFT 'SPECIALITY' STAND CONDENSER
Swift offered a number of different bench (or 'stand') condensers, but this is the largest model offered with the highest maximum height; he called it his 'Speciality Condenser'. It features a 3 inch diameter lens. It has a maximum height of about 22 inches to the top of the lens. As can be seen above in a page from the Swift catalog, 6th ed about 1874, it was so large compared to Swift's other condensers that it had to be illustrated sideways if it was to be drawn to scale. Besides the swiveling adjustments and the hinges in the middle and at the top, it has knurled knobs providing locking length adjustments for each of the two extendable tubes.
