The mechanical stage of this microscope has separate controls for X and Y motion. The top plate can be moved forward and backward independently of the mechanical control, and it can also be manually rotated. The forwardmost slide holder has a hole(arrow) to accomodate stage accessories such as the stage forceps, while the limb has square holes to accept the larger stage accessories like the side reflector.
