OLYMPUS MICROSCOPE CONDENSER AND OBJECTIVES FOR DIC AND PHASE CONTRAST

MAKER:OLYMPUS

MODEL: VANOX

c. 1970s.

Shown below are the components of the Olympus DIC & phase contrast system. One example of an S-Plan phase contrast objective is shown. The condenser has numbers on a revolving disk that indicate the magnification that each insert is to be used for. Shown is the 40X DIC setting. DIC settings are in red and phase contrast in white. The DIC inserts contain Wollaston prisms and the phase inserts contain phase rings. There is also a setting with no prism or phase ring for ordinary brightfield work. The two silver-color knobs are used to center each insert. On the bottom of the condenser are a rotatable polarizer that can be pulled in or out of the optical path, and an iris diaphragm adjustment(not visible in this view). The intermediate tube clamps on to the binocular head via knob A. Knob B pulls the DIC prism in or out of the optical path, and adjusts the color when turned. Knob C is provided to lock the slider in or out if desired.
