DESCRIPTION:

Newton Telescope and Microscope in Case This is a small compendium by F. M. Newton, circa 1880. The 2-draw telescope has an extended sun shade and an objective cap. It is 3/4" aperture, 14" when fully open (not including the shade) and 6 1/4 " when closed. 'F. M. Newton, Halifax' is engraved on the drawtube near the eyepiece. The drum microscope is about 6 1/4" high in closed position. Both the microscope and the telescope deliver good images. The instrument are fitted in a wooden case with leather covered top and velvet lined inside. It has broken front of the case, but the catch part is still in the case. There are 6 slides. The case measures approx. 7 x 3 1/2x 2 1/4 inches. The microscope functions at low power by simply removing the last draw, complete with erecting lens, which acts as a low power objective. The high power objective is present but missing its lens.
