This page illustrates the Nelson No 1 Model in the horizontal position. The second image below illustrates the three points where the microscope would be secured for photography. The arrows show the direction of force that the microscope would be secured horizontally, so not only would it be held down, but also prevented from shifting horizontally when in use for photography. The bottom illustration is from the Baker catalog, showing the Nelson No 2 microscope arranged for photography. Note the pulley arrangement, acting on the fine focus knob from both sides and controlled by a long rod extending to the focusing area of the camera, so focusing could be accomplished while viewing through the camera.
