Beck Centering Quick Change objective adapter set

The kit includes a hardwood box, three objective adapters, the nosepiece receptacle, an adjustment wrench, and a brass-handled screwdriver. There are two main parts. One, which I refer to as the receptacle, is attached to the nosepiece or the end of a nosepiece analyzer, and the others, the objective adapters, are attached to the objectives. The nosepiece can then accept any objective so equipped. The receptacle is signed on one side 'Beck, Patent'.

The objective adapters have two small bolts to adjust centration of the objective; these bolts can be adjusted with the included tiny black wrench.

The tension on the bolts can be adjusted with tiny screws which can be tightened completely to fix the position of the bolts; thus once one is satisfied the centration is good, the bolts can be locked in their positions. The bolts on the side each have a tiny flange to register against the side of the receptacle. The bolts at the end of the adapters register their outer edge against the angled front retainer of the receptacle.

In use, the curved and tapered part of each objective adapter is placed against the loosened retaining screw of the receptacle, and swiveled inwards until the flange of the screw on the side of the adapter prevents further travel. Once the objective is in this position, the knob on the receptacle, which has a tapered contact point, is tightened down on the objective adapter. As the knob is tightened, it forces the adapter front adjustment screw against the angled front retainer of the receptacle. In this way, each time an objective is changed, it is centered just as it was previously. A hardwood box has fittings to hold three objective holders attached to three objectives.
