Nelson-Curties microscope No 2 c. 1895

Note how similar this microscope is to the 1895 engraving, figure 3 in the catalog. The engraving depicts the more expensive version of the Nelson No 2, with the options of substage fine focus, silvered calibrations to the stage rotation, and round toe-pads. It also had a slightly different arrangement to the mechanical stage than the cheaper model, this example having stage clips on a single bar instead of two bars to hold the slide. The stage was removeable, (with the enclosed special tool), and a plain stage was also supplied. This brought the price up to £18 2.

The only discernable difference between the engraving and the microscope shown here is that the the arm on the end of the stem for the mirror was single jointed rather than double jointed. Apparently, double jointed arms at the end of this stem continued to be supplied routinely for the number 1 Nelson model only.
