Unlike the standard stage set in the middle of the instrument, the dissecting stage is setup on top, with the condenser removed. The special 5X objective is used and focusing is by pulling out the draw tube. Unlike other work, this stage is used with the specimen on top as opposed to the usual configuration where it is on the underside of the slide.
