Interferometer microscope

The fitting is for holding a reference flat horizontally with the fiber oriented vertically held in a grooved fitting. A reference flat resembling a coverslip fits in a groove machined onto the bottom of this piece. The end of the fiber to be studied rests on this at a 90 degree angle. Any deviation from a straight cut 90 degrees from the length of the fiber will be revealed by the interference pattern generated by the space between the flat and the irregular parts of the fiber.
