Hartnack Grand microscope Camera lucida

This type of camera lucida was first constructed by Georges Oberhauser about 1839. It is therefore referred to as an Oberhauser type. It has the advantage of allowing one to work with the microscope in a vertical position, which would be helpful when drawing images of subjects in liquid for instance. It has a reflecting prism to direct the light down the horizontal tube to a special eyepiece and from there to the drawing prism. The disadvantage of this device is, the image is not bright enough to use with high powers. This is due to the extra prism. The author is grateful to Jeroen Meeuson for information suggesting the approximate date Oberhauser first made this device.
