GRAND VAN HEURCK MICROSCOPE (ZEISS PRISM VERTICAL ILLUMINATOR):

c. 1910

Maker: Carl Zeiss

Serial number: none

Zeiss Vert Ill

Zeiss Vert Ill This accessory utilizes a prism as the reflector, and is signed 'Carl Zeiss, Jena'. Unlike some other prism vertical illuminators, this one has a relatively wide prism and deliberately allowed part of the field to be blocked. Compare this to the tiny prism of the (later)Watson Combined Vertical illuminator's Prism.

Carl Zeiss is well known as one of the Premier opticians from the 19th Century on. Before Watson supplied their own Apochromats, Zeiss Apos were offered by Watson. Later, Watson also sold Zeiss stands. Some Zeiss lenses are indeed part of the accessories for the Grand Van Heurck Microscope. It is not surprising then that other Zeiss accessories, like this one would be associated with a Watson microscope from about 1910.
