DESCRIPTION HISTORY

scope DESCRIPTION:
This is a small cylinder microscope containing a single rectangular Stanhope-type lens. It has a gold-patterned leatherette covering over the body. In use the eyepiece with the lens is removed and the subject of interest is temporarily tacked on to the end of the lens with saliva or another suitable substance that is easily removed. Shown here, the far end (without the lens) is rounded over and would not accept another accessory easily. This basic type of instrument does not allow the use of a slide.

HISTORY OF THIS MICROSCOPE:
Similar to the 'Microscope or Florascope' popular from the late 19th throught the early 20th centuries, this microscope differs in being a bit smaller and having a leatherette covering with a gold-patterned decoration.
