DESCRIPTION:
This is a fine antique miniature globe by J. Forest of Paris. Of three inches diameter on a nicely ebonized base. The condition is fine, noting some small old restorations in Europe, to the west of St Petersberg and north of Berlin. These restorations are shown in the images, but are not easily noticed when the globe is actually seen in person on display. There are tiny losses under the north and south pole washers, quite minimal on the north, more but still limited to the area under the washers on the south.
HISTORY
Forest was a well-known producer of Globes in France during the late 19th and early 20th century. They were succeeded by Girard & Barrère, which continued to offer "Globes Forest" at the same Rue de Buci address in Paris that Forest used well into the 20th century. The early globes of Forest are now quite uncommon.
