SMALL SIZE FOLDING BOTANICAL MICROSCOPES

19th C.

UNSIGNED

MODEL: 'BOTANICAL' OR 'FLOWER MICROSCOPE'

Jones type Folding Botanical Microscope

DESCRIPTION:Jones type Folding Botanical Microscope This folding insect or botanical microscope is different than the other similar examples on this web site. It is both smaller, and simpler. There is no support for a forceps, though the shape of the main brass centerpiece is similar in shape to the other two examples listed above. Whether this piece ever had a slotted support for a sliding forceps fitting like the larger sizes in this collection is unclear at this time. In this example, the length when fully unfolded from the tip of the handle to the top of the lens casing is about 62 mm. When folded, it is only 40 mm. To my knowledge, this is the smallest of these folding botanicals. The history of the Folding Botanical Microscope is discussed on the web page dedicated to Folding Botanicals.
