BULLOCH BACTERIOLOGICAL MODEL(formerly known as Biological No. 2)

SERIAL NUMBER: 204

DATE: AFTER 1891

Note the Nickel-silver gliding slide carrier and an extra knob at the top of the optical tube. This instrument has the same advanced substage and also has spiral (diagonal) rack and pinion coarse focus, like other microscopes sold by Meyrowitz after Bulloch died in late 1891. The knob at the top of the tube is for locking the draw tube in place. I have not seen this feature on any other Bulloch microscope, although it was common on Nachet microscopes and microscopes of certain other European makers such as Verick. It would seem redundant as the tube is held fast at any length by a cloth lining inside the tube. It could be that the owner used objectives made for only one tube length and wanted to lock it in that position. (private collection)
