These images illustrate the differences in size and design of the Beck 'Economic' model and the Beck 'Ideal' microscope. The 'Economic' (left) has a shorter pillar, and a thicker square stage which is simpler than the 'Ideal.' On the 'Economic' the substage condenser fits directly into a sleeve attached to the bottom of the substage; in the 'Ideal' model the condenser support is on a 'swinging' tailpiece which allows the condenser height and position to be much more flexible. The 'Ideal' has provision for an optional glass glide-stage; a similar but slightly different feature was also available for the 'Economic' for extra cost.
