ATCO COMPACT PORTABLE MICROSCOPE
C. 1935
SIGNED ON THE MICRSOCOPE: ATCO.
AND SIGNED ON THE GOLDEN FOIL LABEL ON THE INSIDE LID: SCHOENIG & CO. INC., OPTICIANS, 9 EAST 42nd ST. N.Y. CITY
MODEL: unknown
DESCRIPTION:
This is a very small compound microscope with a divisible objective and stated magnifications as noted on the sliding draw tube: 40X 60X, 80X. 100X, and 120X. It is black enamel and chrome plated. The optical tube fits snugly into the main stand via a locking pin. The optical tube can be used as a separate 'pen microscope' just like the Ultra-Lomara microscope. Coarse focus is by pulling or pushing the fine focusing ring; this ring is rotated for fine focus. Like the Ultra-Lomara, it has a "hood" around the objectives presumably to reflect light down at an opaque object. Unlike the Ultra-Lomara, there is no fine focus to the stage, and no provision for built in electric lighting. Like the Ultra-Lomara, this microscope has provision for inclination. It does not have any condenser or adjustment of the substage aperture.

HISTORY:
ATCO was a German company, (not to be confused with the Japanese company), which manufactured a small line of
microscopes. ATCO microscopes from Germany included some small stands finished in black and brass and some 'pen' models.
The exact years of manufacture are unknown at this time.
