WOLLASTON-TYPE CAMERA LUCIDA

CAMERA LUCIDA

This camera lucida is a slight variation of the first form of microscope camera lucida. It still replaces the cap on the 'top hat' type of eyepiece but has an angled lens which can be turned into or out of the visual field to adjust the magnification of the drawing surface. This could correct for some changes in visual acuity. It was referred to as 'Wollaston's camera lucida with lens to magnify pencil point' in Beck's catalog of the last quarter of the 19th century. Another catalog, by Casella of Manchester in England called it a 'camera lucida with frame.'
