DESCRIPTION:

This cylinder-type pocket microscope is opaque except at the ends. Unlike the original version, instead of having a fixed distance from the aperture, this instrument features an aperture on a telescoping two-draw tube. The aperture is covered with a flat piece of glass. It measures 72 mm (almost 3 inches)high when collapsed but about 163 mm when extended. The barrel measures 33.5 mm in diameter and has a light colored faux-wood painted finish. The end caps are both lacquered brass. It is lacking both its lens and the flat glass plate that once sat at the observation end. It came in a pasteboard case, the outside with embossed decoration and parts of a paper finish inside; although it fits well, this case may not be original to this intrument.
