DESCRIPTION:
This microscope can be used in the traditional inverted manner (bottom center image), or with the optics rearranged, as a vertically illuminated surface inspection microscope (top center image). It retains all the characteristics of the last metal versions of the McArthur design as described in the entry for the Cooke-McArthur. One notable difference is the roughened painted off-white surface finish. Like the Cooke-McArthur, This instrument has an electric illuminator, a glide stage and a special little tripod. The bottom support plate for the tripod is however much thicker than the Cooke. Unlike the Cooke example, this one has a leather case. There is also a foam-lined blue plastic case similar to the one with the Kirk-McArthur, but with white foam instead of dark gray foam.

HISTORY OF THE PRIOR VERSION OF THE McARTHUR MICROSCOPE

The Prior company sold the McArthur microscope from 1979 to 1986, and again from about 1993 to 1994. For much more on the history of the McArthur type of microscope, see the McArthur Main Page.
