This microscope was probably made by Charles Hearson. They were, along with Watson & sons, one of the first commercial producers of the McArthur microscope in the 1930's. Although a different model from the earlier commercial McArthur microscope, first said to be produced directly by McArthur, the finish is quite similar, bringing up the question of whether Hearson was producing for McArthur earlier. The total number of this model made is unknown; it is generally stated to be about twelve, but this is not well substantiated. Another example of this model, but with mechanical stage is also on this site.
