An extremely rare instrument. Although similar to another in the collection, this one is much more complicated with many more openings and each labelled for the units, each of different countries. The labels are in French and include even Scotch units (mesure ecossais). The base is 2 1/4 inches diameter and the height is 1 inch. The lens is excellent and rotates to bring into view the various apertures in the base. It is obviously of French origin noting the spelling. The various apertures are marked: Francais10 e o, Francais ¼ o, Mesure Ecossais, Anglais ¼ o, De Saxe ¼ o, Du Rhin ¼ o, Espagnol ¼ o, 2 m/m 5/1ces, 5 mm, 10 mm. There is no maker’s mark on the instrument. The online translation of mesure ecossaise is Scottish Extent. I am not aware of another known example of this instrument, but would be greatful for any additional information.
