BULLOCH CONGRESS MODEL

SERIAL NUMBER: 262

substageThe substage on this particular microscope has two tailpieces, the forward most one supports the condenser holder. There is adjustment up or down by rack and pinion, forward and backward by rack and pinion, and right or left by worm screw. It is notable that this precise type of centering mechanism is rarely, if ever, found on microscopes made by anyone else. It apparently confused Herbert Malies when he wrote in his 1981 book, A Short History of the English Microscope, that it was a substage fine adjustment mechanism!

Bulloch Congress Microscope number 262 substage The condenser not only swings right or left, but is on a hinge so it can turn out of the optical axis.
