Botterill Life slide
lifeslide Viewing living and moving organisms with a microscope has always been a challenge. Various types of apparatus have been devised to contain and/or restrain such organisms. They vary from a simple small container to more sophisticated compressoria. One type of container is a 'Life Slide' manufactured by Thomson and Capper of Liverpool, who also were the first to make Botterill's 'Botterill Trough' two examples of which are also in this collection. The Life slide was noted in the 'English Mechanic and World of Science of June 3, 1881 page 298.
