JAMES SMITH BULLSEYE (BENCH) CONDENSER
The bullseye condenser, a commonly supplied accessory, was usually used to focus light on an opaque object from above, thereby serving a similar
purpose to a substage mirror for transparent specimens. This example has several adjustments including the angle of the condenser
and its height. The lens can also swivel. The base is lead-filled. The lens is planoconvex in design. When the bullseye was supplied on a separate stand such as this one it was also called a 'bench condenser'.
